After the first season which was very dark in plot but still fun to watch, the future story has fans eagerly awaiting the continuation of the storyline in Wednesday season 2. Wednesday, which is an Addams Family spin-off series, tells the story of, well, Wednesday, who was sent to a boarding school called Nevermore Academy created for supernatural outcasts.

Good news guys! Netflix officially renewed Wednesday for season 2. The news was announced on January 6, 2023 via a tweet with the caption: “It’s official: Wednesday season 2 is coming.”
Wednesday’s update for season 2 itself isn’t a surprise. The series managed to record 1.806 billion hours of watch time in its first 20 weeks. Netflix later stated all the records the film broke in its first few weeks.
- The series broke the record for the most hours watched for a week for an English-language TV series on Netflix – not once, but twice – when it debuted at #1 with a record-breaking 341.23 million hours watched, and again in its second week with 411 A staggering .29 million watch hours.
- To date, Wednesday has had its sixth straight week of over 100+M hours watched on UK TV Listings — another record!
- On TikTok, #WednesdayAddams has over 22 Billion views
- The Wednesday soundtrack reached #1 on the iTunes Soundtrack chart where it remained in the Top 10 for three weeks. Wednesday Addams, the artist, now has over 1 Million followers on Spotify.
- On Spotify, “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps saw a stream increase of over 9.5k% compared to the month prior to the series release.
- Wednesday’s iconic dance scene has gone viral in a big way on global social media. Fan-generated content using Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” led to an increase in streaming of over 1,800% of the song on Spotify compared to the month prior to the series’ release. Even Lady Gaga got in on the fun.
- With over 80 Million views and counting, fans will never be satisfied with the cast’s reaction to the video of the iconic dance scene.
Even before the series was renewed in January, there was already some talk of a second season from showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
They say: “It’s been great to create a series that connects with people around the world.”
They also added that they “Glad to continue Wednesday’s winding journey for season two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the scary and kooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
When will Wednesday Season 2 be released?
The production list states that Wednesday season 2 is slated to begin filming this Fall 2023. This means that we probably won’t see the new season until around 2024.
Jenna Ortega mentioned during an interview with Glamor Magazine that the initial preparations for season 2 had begun. He says:
“We started preparing for the second season for Wednesday, which was… very exciting. Just developing a new storyline and seeing where the characters lead. Starting a conversation is really fun. I think it’s going to get bigger and better, that’s cool.“
The first season began filming last September 2021 and finished filming on March 22 before being released in November 2022. The second season could follow the same path and we may see Wednesday season 2 in November 2024.
For reference, film photography for season 1 started in Romania where it was shot in September 2021 and finished in March 2022. What’s the Storyline of Wednesday Season 2?
According to the TV Guide website, the showrunners hope to reveal more about the stalker in the second season, they said, “We know who it is, we can’t divulge it.” We can also hope to see more romance, even if it’s one-sided, so maybe it will be more exciting of course.
We also know that Wednesday has limited viewership online, all due to its negative attitude towards the idea of social media. I’m also eager to see what Tyler’s next plan of action will be, the last time we saw him in chains, transported to what looked like a high-security prison or perhaps like an asylum.
No one knows!
Tyler assumes Hyde’s form, leading the audience to assume he has killed all the armed forces. So, it’s safe to say Tyler is on the loose, and without his master, would he be even more dangerous, or would he be trying to redeem himself? We’ll have to wait until that is revealed in the next season.
Gough and Millar said they were excited to explore more of the Addams family mythology in season 2. They also said they planned to make the series darker and more unpredictable than the first season.
Who Are the Cast in Wednesday?
Jenna Ortega made a name for herself in the scary genre with her critically acclaimed roles in the sequel Scream 2022 as well as Ti West’s X, so it makes sense that she’d be the one chosen to play teenager Addams Wednesday. Catherina Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams is also absolutely stunning.
Luis Guzmán as Gomen Addams plays Wednesday’s father in the series and Morticia’s adored husband. Isaac Ordonez is Pugsley Addams who plays Wednesday’s younger brother. Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, Gwendoline Christie as Principal Larissa Weems, Christina Ricci as Marilyn Thornhill, Riki Lindhomne as Dr, Valerie Kinbott, and Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin.
Other cast members include: Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe, Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolis, and Naomi J. Ogawa as Yoko Tanaka.
